Discussion:
Understanding conversion to SoGEA

Mr Smith has FTTC from Zen and phone line rental plus calls from Daisy
Telecomms.

In anticipation of POTS switch-off he has decided to use his mobile for
all phone calls. So he wishes to discontinue his landline number.

So he asked Zen to convert his broadband service to SoGEA (FTTP is not
yet available to him, and might not be until hell freezes over). Zen
confirms that the conversion to SoGEA will take place on 10 September.

Mr Smith expects to close his account with Daisy, but would wait until
the conversion to SoGEA has completed. But Daisy tells him that his
service with them will cease because another provider wishes to take
over the service. Does this suggest that Zen has misunderstood and is
not actually converting to SoGEA?

Ultimately the Daisy cancellation is what he requires, but I'm surprised
that it has happened automatically. Is this in fact the expected behaviour?

As its the same physical line, the phone service must cease on
conversion to SoGEA. I would just check with ZEN that they are not also
intending to migrate his landline number to their VOIP service. That
will also cause his number to cease.

When I migrated my land-line number to voipfone.co.uk my FTTP & phone
from Plusnet was ceased automatically...

Yes, I think so. I've never tried to convert a line that has broadband and
phone from different suppliers, but it pretty much has to follow that
process.

With the "old-style" FTTC service, the voice service is the primary
service, and the broadband is an add-on. So this means that currently
Daisy own the line. The first step to moving it to Zen SOGEA is for Zen to
take over the line from Daisy. It sounds like this is what is happening -
"service with them will cease because another provider wishes to take over
the service". The line will then (possibly very briefly) have both voice
and broadband service from Zen.

Once Zen owns the line, they can then convert it to SOGEA, which replaces
both voice and broadband on the line with SOGEA broadband. The phone
number is detached from the line, and the line is now identified by an
alphanumeric circuit number. The phone number can be allocated to a Zen
VoIP service or released.

Thanks for your very clear explanation.
