(too old to reply)

I can login to hotmail.co.uk on my desktop (W10Pro) but whenever I try
with the same idents to access it on my Moto G8(Pwr) (Android 11) it
comes up with username or password error. It has worked in the past,
just will not work now.

I am using SSL/TLS running on the Moto in Gmail with
pop-mail.outlook.com 995
and
smtp-mail.outlook.com 587
as the server addresses.
The only thing I have changed is my password.

Any steerage anyone?

What email app are you using on the phone?
I think Hotmail now insists on one that can use oAuth2 for authentication.

I have it sitting on Gmail and also on Outlook both of which are
carrying Gmail addesses as well and which work perfectly.

Are you using an actual email app, or just a web browser?

Gmail is now Android's native email app, so it sounds like Woody is using
the Gmail app with POP/SMTP settings for Hotmail.

Possibly also the same applies to the Outlook app as well, with credentials
for a Gmail account.

Sigh, conflating apps and services...

(Woody, you could try another email app like K-9/Thunderbird beta or
FairEmail?)

I have been using T'Bird for years with no problem.

Found FairEmail and it looks interesting save it appears to be for
Android and I am using W10Pro on a desktop.

You may have to log into your Hotmail account via a web browser and tell
the account you want to use POP from a new device. It may then give you
a new POP-only password. Google did something similar a while back for
GMail accounts.

Or you might find that using IMAP on all your devices will work. POP is
really only useful if you collect the mail on just one device.

Or don't use Hotmail.
